Just taking a brief moment to complain . . .
. . . about what a nuisance pumping is. Actually nursing Liam when we’re together is easier than messing with formula and bottle warmers and what-have-you, and I like it just fine. But when I’m at school, working, with limited babysitter time, and no dedicated office – it is a huge pain to feel that telltale tingle and know I have to pack up my laptop, books, and stuff, drag it all downstairs to the mailroom to get the lactation room key, then walk across the building to the lactation room, unpack the pump, do the thing, repack the pump, walk the key back to the mailroom, and go back upstairs to the library to unpack everything again and start working. It is a HUGE interruption, as you can imagine. I would just leave my laptop and things there, but we have a problem here with theft – several laptops have been stolen since I’ve been a student here. And it’s almost half an hour to do the whole process, which would leave me worried about my unguarded stuff. Also, it’s boring to sit and pump, so I usually drag out the laptop and facebook or read blogs while I’m sitting there.
I’m grateful that my school is forward thinking enough to have a lactation room. Slightly annoyed that they won’t check out a key to me, forcing me to march to the mailroom way in the back of the building four times a day. But still, pleased I can at least do my business in private.
But it takes time, interrupts flow, the pump is heavy and too big for my locker so I have to carry it everywhere, and I guess I’m just saying that I’ll be glad when it’s over in a few months. And also, this kid had better appreciate me.

Seriously, you’re a rock star Mom! While it might hurt your reputation, I’ll give a shout out for pumping in the library. Breast feeding in public is protected, and that’s what you’re doing. And if anyone says anything, remind them that if there wasn’t a theft problem, you would have no problem going elsewhere, but by pumping here, you can study harder, become a better lawyer so the world is a better place- because you’re a kick ass lawyer AND your kid got mother’s milk.

You rock for dealing with it! When I was pumping, I used a manual pump (super tiny and easy to carry). It may take a little longer (I didn’t find it did though) but it’s much easier to maneuver with all the stuff you’re dealing with. You could easily do it under a sweater or blanket should you need to pump in the library. And it’s noiseless.
Still, you are awesome!

I have a manual, too, but it does take me longer. And it hurts my hand. Waaah waah, I know! I use it on long car trips, so we don’t have to stop – I just pump him a bottle!
Only a few more months to go. Gotta say, I’ll miss the boobs. But I won’t miss the hassle!
