So I recently came into possession of a laptop computer, which is a giant big deal in my world.  I love having it, but I keep forgetting I have it, since it’s been so long (since 2003?) since I had a working laptop of my very own.  I always just used the Prof’s or my work laptop – which was fine except I could not store pictures on those.  So, bringing us around to our point . . . now I have one, and it’s mine, and I can put my pictures on it, and voila!  You get picture posts!  I’m about to get a new phone as well –…

  • Housey McHouseyface

We’ve made our five millionth offer on a house and are waiting to hear.  We are one of many, and we offered low because it needs work, so I’m presuming our offer will expire without word because that’s just how this process rolls. We’re definitely in compromise mode.  I’ll take anything!  Anything that’s not $750,000 but still has three rooms that can reasonably be described as bedrooms, and two baths, only one of which need actually have a bath in it!  Well, that’s an exaggeration of our position, truly.  I can live in just about anything, but we have to think of this as an investment as well.  After watching…

  • Family Fun

Yesterday we took the boys to the spring game on campus.  We spent forty dollars on hot dogs (when she told me the total I nearly fainted), and the boys dusted the pollen-covered benches with the seats of their formerly-clean jeans.  They met Riptide, the Pelican mascot, and rubbed his fuzzy beak.  There was a kids’ area set up out back, with bouncy houses, food trucks, footballs and soccer balls, and a bunch of those football player tackle things.  The boys had a ball.  A woman asked if I had a son playing in the spring game, and I was like – WHUT.  Do I look that old?  (Technically I…

  • Spring Weekend

This was a brilliant, spring-like weekend in New Orleans.  (Spring comes early this far south.)  Friday night we went out to dinner at a Mexican place known for quick seating, quick food, and not-terrible margaritas.  The boys all pretty  much stayed in their chairs, ate their food, and were well-behaved.  It was a gift, after a long week.  I had steak nachos – I was expecting a big pile of nachos covered in messy cheese and steak and guac and what-have-you, but instead I got 8 individual nachos, each carefully loaded with steak and cheese, and then dipping stuff (guac, salsa, sour cream) in the middle.  AND IT WAS PERFECT. …

  • Half Marathon

I’m running a half marathon this Saturday.  You may ask – how much have you trained?  And I shall answer – not a whit.  *nervous chuckle A half is a distance that I can get through on grit alone, especially on a completely flat course.  I’ve done a few dozen halfs, always at a relatively slow pace, so I’m not too worried.  I have a base level of running fitness from twenty years of running/jogging regular exercise.  But I’ve also had a bad cold for about three weeks- now fully cleared up, but too late to do much in the way of catch-up training.  So Saturday I shall stagger through.…
