Live from the City of Angels
I’m writing this from a giant fluffy nest of pillows and futon in my room on the eleventh floor of a hotel in downtown Los Angeles. I’m here for a couple of days, celebrating the marriage of one of my favorite people, a law school bestie. I flew out yesterday morning, billing time on the plane. I’m writing an appellate brief right now, and flying up over the clouds is actually a kind of great place for thinking more broadly and creatively about complicated legal issues, so I made really good progress on the brief. Although since airplane seats are seriously so miniscule these days, and the dude in front…

Monday Morning
We did a lot of work/packing this weekend – both of us spent several hours working, and I packed eleventy billion boxes while the Prof spent about four hours total (I’d guess – a conservative estimate) washing dishes. We also both worked out – we’ve been working out regularly for the past month and of course he looks real different and I look just the same, but I *feel* pretty good. It’s helped the mood, the energy, the sleeping, the lower back pain, everything! In the middle of all this industry, we also managed some fun. Friday night we had a pizza/movie night, and introduced the boys to Indiana Jones…

Summer Weekend
A summer weekend: I wake at 6, lace up the shoes and go for a run. The summer heat and humidity is already so intense, my peppy run quickly devolves to a walk/jog. I shuffle over to Audubon park, do lunges around half the circle, wilt some more. I stagger home, and Craig flings open the front door for me, shouting “Duh-Pwize!” (This is his thing now – cheerfully “surprising” everyone who comes to the door.) I walk in, stripping off shirt, shoes, socks, and guzzle iced water. It takes a while to cool down, and I do some yoga. (That was yesterday, and today my back feels much better…

Summer “Break”
Summer ‘vacation’ is so different as a working parent! Ugh, 3 months to find something for the kids to do each week, 3 months of slight guilt that they aren’t getting any lazy time at home, 3 months of wondering why the heck summer day camps run from 9am to 3pm . . . When will school come back?? Anyhow, the boys have a good mix of camps this year. Some arts, some sports, some church, a couple of vacation weeks. Since the camp day is so short, they don’t seem too tired out. The Prof (who does drop off and pick up) generally is, though. Tired out, I mean!…

Memorial Day Weekend
We had a MDW that was action packed and also leisurely. Since the kids have short attention spans, all of our “action” was relatively short, punctuated with long spans of lounging. On Saturday, we woke up and went swimming at the gym we just joined. Before getting there, we ducked into Walgreens and purchased a floaty vest for Craig, since he hates to be held in the water and prefers to “do it himself”/drown. The vest does float him, just about at nose level, so he bobs around in the water, still unable to breathe, but at least he’s drowning quite close to the surface. Though the thing is quite…
