  • Taking a Sec from a V. Busy Day to Say . . .

. . . I just caught a look at myself in the bathroom mirror at work, and my biceps are ridiculous.  Seriously.  Anybody want to challenge me to an arm wrestle?  Who knew that having a big baby could lead to such hotness?   If you’re one of my friends and you’re having some trouble, need somebody’s knees broken, I am now officially a Thug and can take care of it for you.  I am Mother, hear me rawr.

  • The First Celebration of Many!

Let me tell you about the joys of a parent’s Christmas.   One week ago was Christmas Eve.  Even though my child is only 8 months old and my niece just 6 weeks, I myself am thirty years old and looked forward to the full Christmas experience, so we did the whole deal just like they were old enough to get it.  Just before suppertime Jack and Ella were dressed in their ridiculously cute matching Christmas outfits and proudly toted to church.  The large Presbyterian sanctuary was crowded with kids at this family service, which made for a lot of rustle and tears – just the right environment for our…

  • Um, So How Long Does This Take?

Last night, he cried at 9:30, we ignored, he went back to sleep in 10 minutes.  At 10:30, I gave a dream feed, and he pretty much stayed asleep.  At 11 he cried, I ignored, and in 10 minutes he went back to sleep.  At 2:00, I ignored, and he continued to cry.  For 2 hours, I did the Ferber thing.  The – hi I’m here, I pat you on the back, and then leave for 10 or 15 minutes thing.  Finally, at 4am, I looked at my very angry, tantrum-throwing, hungry baby and said – Oh dear god, you win – and I picked him up and I nursed him and he ate like…

  • Baby Talk

I’m much happier now, thank you all.  Busy still.  Sheesh, someone decided that September 2008 would be like, the nightmare month of all time.  Maybe subconsciously I am struggling with turning 30?  (Consciously I’m truly not, truly truly.)  Or maybe I am struggling with work being a shizzstorm at the mo, plus the busy-ness of baby (that’s busy-ness, not business.  The business is the cause of the busy-ness, if you get what I’m sayin.  Dude.  Leave the daily writing gig for a couple of days and look what happens.  You lose your mind.)   So Saturday night I slept 8 hours straight for the first time since Jack was born…

  • Quick 'Un

Posted some photos – my camera does not handle low light very well.  You can see the very stunning cancer survivor Sarai, in a bright pink top, sporting her newly re-sprouting hair (I think she should keep it that short, she rocks the buzz cut!).  I also included a couple of tummy shots, it’s growing already and I ain’t even in trimester 2 yet.   I have been approached by 3 little kids lately, all kids I know.  Here is a sample conversation:   "Miss Gill, are you pregnant?" they ask, patting their little hands on my belly.  "Yes, honey, there’s a baby in there."  "How’d it get in there,…
