  • Wiggin’

Just this second, I’m feeling overwhelmed and out of control.  Oddly, it has nothing to do with the job, which continues to click along at a breakneck pace, taking up virtually all of my time.  Nope, it’s not the job – it’s my personal life that is wiggin’ me out. I have to begin a project for school for next year, one that I don’t have time for right now.  I am owed reams of materials to use for this project, but the dude in possession of the materials refuses to get them to me.  I’m not sure why.  He’s being weird.  I DO NOT HAVE TIME TO CHASE WEIRDOS…

  • Friday Night in Mo-Town

I am drinking my second beer of the night, in my hotel room, listening to the sounds of the various humans occupying their little blocks of space beside me, below me, above me.  My friend and fellow law clerk keeps hinting via text that he’d love some company at the sports bar downtown, but I’m pretending not to get the hints.  I am exceedingly tired.  This week has worn through me.  He can manage being alone in a bar for a night. This is a weird time for me, a time of upheaval, a kind of emotional time.  I don’t plan on getting too melodramatic about this – I picture…

  • Fashion Update

CCL asked about clothes!  Good question, given my anxiety about it! So the day after my last exam, I went through my closet and pulled all of my “worky-works,” as Andy Bernard would say, and did an assessment of my work clothing situation.  And I realized that by adding just a handful of pieces, I would actually have a pretty darn workable professional wardrobe.  I needed a pair of shoes that would go with most of my wardrobe, so  I bought an absolutely unreal pair of nude, slightly sparkly python pumps from Ann Taylor.  (I feel compelled to tell you I did not pay full price.  Does anybody, at Ann…

  • Disoriented

My first 6 days of the summer associate program have spun me right around.  I’ve worked (or played) til 10 or so every single working day.  I also spent this past weekend with my boys, little and big, and my awesome mother-in-law who is playing momma to my sons for the first three weeks of my associate-ship (my mother will step in later in the summer). So, my impressions after a week and a day, in bullet form because I write all the livelong day and I have no head left for writing anymore: the first week away from the boys was a bit of a novelty, and I enjoyed…

  • In Birmingham

I’m in my (fairly swanky and huge) hotel room in Birmingham.  Its only flaw – it lacks a tub.  And the hotel does not have a hot tub.  Ah, well.  It does have a couch and enormous big screen tv.  I just went out with my classmate who is also working at this firm over the summer – I had a beer, he had a calzone.  We jawed about nothing for an hour, and now it’s 11pm.  I’d better go to sleep. I had dinner with my mother and dad.  Breakfast with my  kids, dinner with my mom.  Could do a lot worse on mother’s day.  I bought some delicious…
