  • Snippets of Summer Part Two

We did some other fun things in Nasvhille, as well, including going to the drive in to see Inside Out.   We went to a huge park and splash park Once the splash park eventually opened, we had a sort of great time.  However, this splash park allows no running, horseplay, climbing, toys, buckets, or other objects.  It is gated and locked and two lifeguards are stationed at all times.   I mean, like, what??  I got over my annoyance and helped the lifeguards police the 5 year olds from running and horseplay, all the while muttering my disgust. We went to the zoo. And I’ll throw in a few more…

  • School’s Out For Summer

Yesterday was the boys’ last day of school – it ended a week of mid-day parties and awards ceremonies and parades, all the Last Week of School pomp and circumstance.  At his awards ceremony earlier in the week, Jack received the A/B honor roll and a character award.  He grinned bashfully when his name was called, then did a little flailing dance and made a weird face.  It perfectly illustrated the battle between immaturity and grace that his seven year old self is experiencing.  A partner was mad at me for being late on an internal deadline, but I’m so glad I went to his awards ceremony anyway.  Jack saw…

  • Happenings

In our Exciting Event of the Week, Jack crushed his fingers in the trunk of the car.  We were heading to baseball practice, him and me and Craig (Professor has been out of town for ten days in a row, but he comes back soon – and he took Liam with him for the latter six days of that, leaving me to handle only two kids which made it easier)(fully supportive of the trips, just . . . phooooo, it’s a lot of lonely nights watching Gilmore Girls solo on the couch).  He was putting his baseball bag in the back, which he normally does, but somehow he closed his three fingers…

  • The Clock

Our oldest is sick.  Last night, I promised him he could sleep with me.  We agreed he would start the night in the top bunk as usual, so that little brother Liam wouldn’t be jealous.  Once Liam was snoring in the bottom bunk, Jack could sneak down.  “What if I fall asleep?” he whispered to me, worriedly.  “I’ll come back up to check on you in ten minutes,” I whispered back.  “What’s ten minutes?” he asked, pointing to the analog clock that he keeps several feet away on the dresser, and I told him “when the big hand is on the eleven.” In ten minutes, I could hear that they were…

Jack’s in baseball again.  We’ve decided to go ahead and enroll him for the spring, even though I can’t imagine how I’m going to handle getting him there.  I’ll work it out. We had a TWO HOUR PRACTICE TODAY OH MY GOD.  Two hours is a long time.  The Professor is out of town (we got Mardi Gras “off” but karma couldn’t let us have a break so he had to be out this Saturday).  So I had to schlepp all three kids to a practice that I thought would be fifty minutes, tops.  Soooooo not prepared for a two hour entertain-the-littles session. I bought some time with cell phone games…
