Ten
This month marks ten years of writing on this blog. I am going to attempt – and probably fail – at one of those write-every-day-for-a-month things. I cannot guarantee the quality of each day’s offering . . . but I do know that the only way to write anything good is to write, a lot, and then sift. I don’t imagine I have enough readers to merit much of a response to this query, but . . . if any of you following along have any questions or ideas for topics, do leave them in the comments! We are watching Twin Peaks, for the first time – I did not catch…

Labor Day Monday Meal Re-planning
A new grocery store has popped up across the street from our ‘local,’ and as a result the ‘local’ has had some crazy deals on the last few weekends. I re-jiggered the weekly meal plan based on the deals on hand – they had 10 chicken leg quarters for $1 (total!), a $1.60 roasting chicken, $1.00 for a half dozen chicken thighs . . . there was a run on all of this, people pushing to grab, elbows flying. Kind of wild. The line was out the door. I suppose the store is achieving its goal of keeping its loyal following, although I fear a stampede one of these days.…

Did I Mention This Thing That Happens EVERY TIME?
So, I went away for the weekend to attend my sister’s baby shower, and the night I returned, Jack threw up and Liam had a croup/breathing scare/emergency that prompted a midnight 911 call*. I think I mentioned that every time I leave town and have a kid-free night, I return to illness and chaos. But really. I mean. Come on. The weekend was absolutely wonderful. I worked remotely on Friday and Monday, which let me have two full weekend days to spend with family and friends. I stayed with friends (my sister’s current place is very small so these friends took in me, the refugee. Fingers crossed Sister gets in a new…

Brighter Mood
The mood today is brighter. It’s been a good week for the two oldest boys. Craig, on the other hand, has had a terrible week – copious drool + complete personality change + waking up again at night have us convinced that the two year molars are making an early appearance. He’s been an absolute nightmare – basically crying and furious the whole time he’s awake. Our sweet baby is back today, though, for how long we don’t dare guess. Yesterday, to celebrate the boys’ successful completion of their first week of school, we drove about a half hour to a pretty nice municipal pool, complete with waterslides, diving board, and snack…

Saturday Early Morning Meal Planning
I had the strangest dreams last night. I was helping a laboring woman get to the hospital – and then suddenly she shrunk and was inside a chicken egg I carried, and she birthed a miniscule baby along with a gush of yellow egg yolk. I could not fish the baby out of the yolk and get it breathing, I tried all different ways, but it was too tiny to get on the tip of my finger. So I carried the whole egg up a terrifying staircase, trying to get help. It was not so much a staircase as a teetering, extremely tall obstacle course, where I had to climb…
