Navel Gazing (and I Don't Mean Oranges)

  • I Won a Major Award!

I recently won a major award. Oh wait, not that.  This: The above is an award currently circulating among bloggers, and Magic Cookie decided I was an interesting enough person that she would bestow it upon me.  Although I like her blog 50% less since she got rid of the dinosaur in her header, I’m so chuffed to be given an award, I’ll link to her regardless. (JUST KIDDING HA HA HA I READ YOU IN GOOGLE READER ANYWAY I DON’T EVEN MISS HIM – >sob<) The rules of the award are as follows: 1. Thank the person who gave you this award. 2. List seven things people may not…

  • Distracted

I just read an article about being a distracted parent.  It was a bit overwrought in my opinion – MAN, do twenty first century parents really know how to beat ourselves up – but its point is one I take.  And even before I read this article, I knew that this topic was the parenting topic to which my attention needed to turn.  This parenting gig – heck, this being a living responsible adult gig – is just a mess.  I feel like I am forever turning this way and that, shoring up the sagging areas, leaving behind something that I’ve finally tinkered and perfected to awesomeness which is now…

  • Resolutions

I am one of those people that likes to make resolutions.  I do my best work when I have some sort of external driver, even if I create the external driver my own self.  Plus, it’s tradition.  So, in the spirit of the yearly tradition of trying to be better, here are my 2012 resolutions: 1. Be vegetarian for the month of January, and only introduce minimal meat meals thereafter.  This is a mini goal designed to support an overall weight loss goal, which is: 2. Get back to my normal weight by June.  This means losing 20 pounds in 6 months – a reasonable goal, I believe, especially now…

  • Giving Thanks

On this lovely, warm, twinkling Thanksgiving morning, surrounded by family, hot coffee in hand, warm fire aglow in the corner, I am thankful for all of my many blessings.  Attorney at Large wrote a lovely post about being grateful for even those things that don’t feel like blessings, and I thought that it would be a meaningful exercise. 1. I am thankful for the recession, and the ways it has affected my family.  I don’t want fear or excessive caution to keep us from relaxing into our next phase of life, but I will appreciate what a recession has taught us: about what we really “need” to get by (and how…

  • Sadly, not a Wedding Update

I hate to disappoint, but I gotta get this one right, and I also gotta get some photos from somebody else (alas, my camera wires are still AWOL).  Ergo, my wedding update post will arrive a few days hence.  The very short version of the story is this: I don’t know why, but knowing that she is wearing my mother’s dress makes me all weepy and stuff.  Anyhow, lots more to come on the fabulous weekend of marital bliss, including stories about how Liam darn near ruined the whole thing, the very special gift each sister received, the wild bachelorette night, the unbelievable UNBELIEVABLE honeymoon suite, and a stunning affirmation…
