  • Bar Studying, Week Three

So, studying for the bar is . . . what it is.  It is considerably more work than law school, and in fact I am already discarding some of the tasks assigned.  I cannot work on this ten hours a day, seven days a week, for ten straight weeks.  It is a lot of info to cram into one’s brain, and it’s a marathon, and I feel myself tiring out too early in the game.  So Imma slow down the pace a smidge.  The Paced Program invites you to answer sixty bazillion practice questions after class every day, and I think I’ll whittle that down to a more reasonable 40…

  • Peace

I have been granted by my generous family a full day in the house child-free, during which time I am attempting to catch up on bar bri.  (Three days behind.  Already.  Cursed move.)  I’ve listened to two lectures and taken lots of notes so far.  It’s important that I use this time, but since the last five minutes of lecture just went in one ear and out the other, I’m taking a brief and refreshing break.  I did a few dishes, did a few stretches, and now I write to you, dear readers. It is raining.  The backyard of my in-laws’ lovely (and now quiet!) home is vibrantly green, green…

  • Thanksgiving Trip

I am in the middle of exams, I have a wedding to update (I’ve written snippets here and there, but I need to link them all together into something coherent), I have various other side projects demanding my attention – life is BUSY, yo.  But I still managed to squeeze in jotting off this description of Thanksgiving: We piled into the car and started our drive at around lunchtime on Tuesday.  I attended two morning classes beforehand, which started us a little later than usual.  Despite tons of pretty bad rain, we made great time, and got to the in-laws’ place about 9.5 hours after we’d left.  When we walked…

  • Wedding Part Deux

My sister got married in a small, quiet mountain town.  It was a lovely place for a wedding, but just wouldn’t do for a bachelorette, so we had decided to go farther afield for our wild times.  Unfortunately, it was pouring rain, very dark, and the roads were mountainous, winding, and unfamiliar.  This made me chicken, and I kind of wanted to call it off, but in the end we braved the awful roads and drove over an hour to Asheville.  I drove, I should say, and though my sisters made fun of me for being slow and kind of herky jerky with my brakes, I would like it noted…

  • A North Carolina Wedding: The First Installment

Early November stole swiftly upon us.  Before I knew it, I was gathering my wedding toasting glasses, silver cake cutting utensils, leftover wedding ribbons and faux autumn leaves, scarves and sweaters and little boy coats, piling it all high in the living room next to two large, empty suitcases.  It was time to go to the North Carolina mountains, to a place that still feels like home, and marry off my little sister. Wednesday I skipped my morning class and thoroughly packed and cleaned.  I really didn’t want to forget anything – my bridesmaid dress and the boots I would wear with it, the boys’ outfits, the travel crib, special…
