The Reluctant Grownup
I feel I should probably explain the title of my blog before I get too far into this. See, I have just completed my first full year of working in a job I call a "REAL JOB," with big fat quotation marks. My early twenties were spent earning peanuts in non-profits and loving life, and now I’m trying to be the proverbial ant slaving away for the winter. I liked being a grasshopper better. An American in . . . America
Sometimes, I miss being "The American." I have lived abroad twice, a year in England and a year in Australia, both in my early twenties. Living abroad is something I highly recommend – it gives you a sense of self, a sense of how deeply and unconsciously your homeland shapes your every thought. A small example – soda cans in Australia are slightly bigger. This completely drove me wild for the first 2 weeks I was there.
