Super special double bonus post-day – I am trying to figure out a NYE and NYD menu and I trolled through prior years’ posts and never ONCE have I posted an NYE or NYD menu. It’s my least favorite “holiday” for sure, I’m usually totally wiped from the Christmas merry-making but still feel obligated to do something, and oh noes – the Prof’s birthday is also January 3rd so I’m usually scrambling to make joy through the first week of Jan.
Well. After some poking around, and once again finding the traditional foods to be unexciting but yet somehow compulsory, I’ve come up with the below. I was thinking of having the Prof grill some things, but it’s supposed to be terrible weather here shortly (rain, hail and tornadoes, oh my!), so no dice on that idea. Instead, I came up with this:
NYE Menu
- Easy baked Swedish meatballs. I have made these before and they are OH. SO. GOOD. The gravy pushes it over the edge.
- Crash Hot Potatoes. I have not made these, but they look good eh?
- Some sort of green veg.
- Sparkling grape juice and champagne with cranberry.
NYD Menu
- Collards, cooked in my BIL’s style. I’ve gotta find that recipe actually.
- Hot black-eyed pea dip with chips.
- Pulled pork sliders.
- Sparkling WATER! Giving up alcohol for a bit. (Join the club, right?) Maybe January, maybe through Easter. I got STOCKED UP with tea this Christmas (thank you sister and niece!) and so I’m ready for this thing. Plus there’s no Mardi Gras (*weeps*) so that’ll make it easier.
OK, future me. There’s a menu for you to use next year when it is December 31 and you are totally blah about cooking but still gotta do it!
