Let’s just do this picture-post style – I’ll post pictures, and captions, and try to sort of tell-ish the story of Mardi Gras 2019, and nobody reading judges my lack of time to edit. Mmmmkay? Mmmkay.
First up – I marched in the Chewbacchus Wonder Woman krewe again this year – my second time. As the link explains, Chewbacchus is a sci-fi walking parade, made up of sub-krewes of sci-fi-ish collectives, including (for example) swamp creatures, Harry Potter, Firefly, Star Wars, Star Trek, etc. etc. I wore the same outfit as last year, except I added a wig and earrings from Fifi Mahoney’s, and I beaded and blinky-lighted up my bustier. I only got one brutal blister from the hot glue gun – worth it! If you get a chance, flip through some of these pictures online – these people build this shizz in their GARAGE. Pictures can’t compare to seeing it live and in person, but still check them out. I love NOLA creativity.
Next up – my sister had a baby! I LOVE HIM SO MUCH! We’ll call him Jay here. They’re wisely starting out cautious with the online presence of Jay, so I won’t post pictures of him or use his real name, but just imagine the most delicate featured little doll baby you ever did see.
The beab was born shortly before Valentine’s Day. The hospital posted this pic on facebook – my nephew is in here!! Isn’t this the cutest??
I caught a quick flight to visit the Beab just a few days after he was born. There was much sniffing of the newborn head, many chest naps, and lots of chats with my sister and her husband – happy, healthy new parents, just a leeetle bit tired. Just glorious. GOD I love babies. I shall never have another, dear heavens no, but I do adore other people’s babies something fierce. My sister’s in-laws were in town and they made all the meals, including desserts. I ate well during the trip, and only worked a half day each. Not bad!
I flew home for a couple of days before having to fly out again, this time to NYC for a quick back and forth trip (deposition).
The depo went great, and I got my traditional dim sum meal while up there. I’ll be back up there a couple of times in the next few months – lots of upcoming travel. This is always my view. I haven’t tired of it yet!
Meanwhile – parades. First, Cleopatra:
Cleopatra had a superhero theme this year. We caught spiderman snap bracelets, blinking Cleo rings, and horns – dear god, the horns.
Next, daytime King Arthur:
Jack won the award for catching the best throws at King Arthur. This snake has “scales” that turn a different color when you brush them the opposite way – and this plush Merlin hat was pretty nice!
Next up – the Prof’s parade, Druids, followed by Nyx. The tradition of rain pouring on Druids held this year – in fact, it only rained hard for about twenty minutes, right around when the Prof’s float rolled by. So we caught some wet and muddy stuff from him, as per usual! I did not take many photos due to the wet conditions.
So, that takes us through Wednesday night. Later on, I’ll catch you up on Thursday and Friday – two pretty awesome nights themselves – but right now, it’s Saturday morning and we have to start prepping for our open house tomorrow, for the Best Day of Mardi Gras – THOTH SUNDAY. Thanks for following along!
