I, the Reluctant Grownup, win the Gold for spectacular wipeouts on the ski slopes. Thank you, thank you, it’s really just an honor to be here. I’d like to thank my parents who never took me skiing as a kid, and my sister for helpfully taking pictures of me flung out on the ground. Lastly, thanks go to my boyfriend, or rather, fiance, who on every run took off without me in a swish of powder, but waited patiently at the bottom of the slope to laugh as I crossed skis, keeled over toward the right, over corrected, and did some very uncomfortable splits. You all made this happen. You.
In other news . . . mine and my sister’s favorite conversation of the week, which transpired at our celebratory dinner afterwards.
Us: “We’d like to try the warm apple pie a la mode with cheese. Like it says right here on the menu.”
Obviously Stoned Waitress: “Like, American cheese, or like cheddar? Because people eat that.”
Us: “Wow. American, really? OK, we’ll just take the pie a la mode, please.”
OSW: “Are you sure? Because, I could like, totally put some ice cream on that for you.”
Us: “Ice cream, yeah. That would be great.”
She’d like to thank her parents, who never bought her anything a la mode as a kid, and her supplier, who always gives her the best wacky baccy. And us, for asking for something on the menu that totally threw her, without which she would never have won the Gold for USA, in Totally Idiotic (But Endearing) Waitress Interactions.
COUNTDOWN TO WEDDING DAY: Possibly much, much sooner. In negotiations with the parents, who are threatening to withdraw all funding if the Big Day does not occur in summer/early fall. Bride and Groom and discussing options, but October is now looking more likely, which makes the countdown jump shimmy and shake on down to 7 and 1/2 months. Stay tuned for further developments.
PLANS SO FAR: All plans have been halted at the moment until budget and date can be decided. Discussions of Vegas are on the table, however, which would limit planning to plane ticket purchase, locking in the Elvis Impersonator as officiant, and appropriations in the budget of amount we are allowed to gamble (read: lose).
FIGHTS SO FAR: Big old knock down drag out with the ‘rents. Still at a draw. So, Parents: ? RG: 1+?, Professor: 0. I’m still in the lead with the most wins, but I think I’m about to lose big. At least I still win the man. 🙂
Great waitress story, we all have them.
Ahhh wedding plans… what I wouldn\’t give to go back to that
hell. I would have been happy going on a cruise and having
a nice reception. Probably would have been cheaper too. It
was fun, but such a blur and so busy I wish I had enjoyed it
more.

LOL….I loved the way you wrote about your skiing event. I have only been a handful of times myself and I would probably be up there beside you accepting the silver.
The waitress story also had me cracking up. How in the world do these people survive on a day to day basis? LOL
Awww…the wedding planning. It\’s such an important day. But if I was to ever do it again….I would just elope and have a huge party. LOL
