No not me. The movie.
Even though it is 5:45 am on Thursday morning and I’m writing this from work (don’t ask – it doesn’t happen often), I am much better now. I was even going to delete my crabby post, but I already got a comment on it, and it is from one of my favorite people, so I have to leave it up. It’s ok to be poor. We aren’t actually poor, anyway. I was weak when I wrote this post last night (at work at 7pm, yes it’s been a long week!) I’d kicked off my dress sandals under my desk, and they really were just STINKY, and at the stinky feet smell wafting up at me and as the five hundredth person knocked on my door desperate for help with fillintheblank, something inside me broke down and threw a tantrum. Sometimes I forget all the free wonderful stuff I get, like a free beach weekend from friends, or a free camping trip with my relatives, or a free nice meal at a wedding. I know I have it good.
Why the about face, you ask? Comedy, my friends. Cinematic genius. Well, maybe not genius, but pretty damn close considering it came from Hollywood.
We had these gift cards to the movie theatre that I got from work in October (yes, 8 months ago), and last night we finally put them to use. We saw Knocked Up. It was excellent. We were both laughing like mad, and I never laugh out loud at movies. It handled a somewhat knotty subject with a deft, light touch – it could have gone OTT with the gross comedy or the melodrama, but did neither. It just sort of showed you bittersweet life, only with fabulously beautiful and really witty people. I laughed, I cried, and I was really satisfied with the ending. P loved it too. After it was over, and we went to our hotel for the night (work got me a hotel room in town to spare me the hour drive since I had to be here so early, aren’t they nice), and I felt so relaxed and easy.
Let’s hope I can hold onto this peaceful easy feeling all day. Wishing you the same!
I am so glad that some cinematic magic could put a smile back on your face. I\’ve been dying to see this movie and now that I have a good report from someone, I can convince Michael to go! I mean, it\’s by the people who did 40 Year Old Virgin!
Working stinks, paying bills stinks, being a grown-up stinks. At least we\’re all in it together, right? And maybe someday, far far away, we can all look back on these stressful times and laugh? I hope so! Hey, it could be worse — we could have all of this stress and three kids in college — you know, going out drinking and doing dumb stuff like we used to? And we\’d have to pay for all of them to go to school to do all of that. Money well spent, I am sure. I mean, look how well we all use our education! 🙂
And you\’re MSO Rin\’s heroine? Hello!? That makes you super awesome!
Amanda 🙂
i\’m glad you got a good laugh. it sounded like you could use one. hang in there! is there any end in sight for you? or is it just constant on-the-go with your job? *hug*
