I must be feeling somewhat better, as today I woke up feeling like doing a little menu planning and grocery shopping. The morning sickness is not gone, oh lordy no . . . it comes and goes in waves, and I still suffer the heaves a few times a week. But it’s better than it was. And because I was traveling for work the first part of the week, and had lunch meetings the latter part of the week, I ended up eating out almost every lunch and dinner the whole week – and far too many of those meals were drive through window bags of grease. Baby deserves better, and so does Mama, so this week I’m jumping back into making meals from scratch. I’ve also started going to a Pilates/barre class, and want to try the yoga class at the gym. I am retaking this body, to the limited extent that my low energy and occasional nausea allows.
Amazingly, I have not yet gained a pound – I’m eating smaller meals (though more frequently), and of course I’m losing about a third of what I eat to the porcelain god. But I have spent almost $40 on gelato in the last six weeks (and I know this because of a frequent-buyer program that tracks my every purchase), I eat Egg White Delights like they’re going out of style, and I have given up my mostly-meatless living almost entirely. Who knows how this plus an exercise plan that went from Full Steam Ahead to Flop on the Couch, plus a baby that is now the size of my fist, all put together can add up to weight maintenance. I’m not going to stress either way.
Without further ado, I present to you – bum bum bum buuuuuum – our week o’ dinners:
Sunday: Turkey Cutlets with tomato cream sauce (from this month’s Southern Living), fresh crunchy salad
Monday: Grilled marinated chicken breasts (grilled under the broiler as we do not have a grill yet) using this marinade, mashed potatoes, carrots and peas. I feel compelled to tell you that I have that marinade in my cupboard already and I did NOT pay $54 for it.
Tuesday: Roasted red pepper and goat cheese angel hair pasta, crusty bread, asparagus
Wednesday: Sausage, broccolini, and tomato pasta
Thursday: Chicken and black bean enchiladas, refried beans, tomatoes and sour cream
Friday: Homemade pizzas (on a store bought crust), more crunchy delicious salad
Saturday: Ravioli with burst tomatoes and mascarpone (another Southern Living recipe), salad, crusty bread
I also plan to make this black milk tea and honey pound cake, and a loaf of banana bread to have with Greek yogurt and fruit for breakfasts. I will hard boil some eggs and buy a cooked cubed ham to make a nice Cobb salad for lunch, and have grilled cheese and tomato soup on another lunch day. We’ve got ramen in the cupboard and frozen shrimp in the freezer to make another quick shrimp and noodle lunch, and plenty of cereal and fresh fruit for other breakfasts. Just reading about all of this makes me excited for a healthy week, which is a good sign on the morning sickness front. And also probably a good sign for Baby’s nutrition. 🙂 14 weeks down, 26 to go.
Oh, to have children who eat normal food! Only your Wednesday and Friday meals would be acceptable in our house. I admire you for planning ahead — I did it for a month or so and then gave up, but we really need to start again. And glad you’re starting to feel a little better.
