I’m looking a mess today, folks. I’ve had a rough time getting up the past couple of days. Jack just looks sooooooo sweet and perfect and, you know, ASLEEP at 6am when my alarm goes off. If left alone he usually sleeps til 8 or so, and yesterday and today I have SO desperately wanted to stay in the bed with him after the morning nurse, to cuddle and catch up a bit. So today was a late morning, and after my superfast shower I realized that I hadn’t washed my 3 shirts that fit, nor had I washed my 1 pair of jeans that fits, so I was sunk clothing-for-work-wise. I tried on and rejected a few of the pre-preggo items, got REALLY depressed, and then it was 7:20 and I had to GO so I threw on a maternity dress. And it is a little too big, and I wore my tattered white flip flops with it because I have a bad blister, and once I got here I discovered my nursing bra is showing all the way around the neckline, and I also didn’t dry my hair. BUT. I have on mascara. I got that far. I feel like I should get to wear a sign that says “Mom of Newborn” so people will excuse my appearance. And go buy me some more fat clothes.
From Wedding to Camping
The morning after the beautiful Grand Tetons wedding, Jack woke me at 6am for a feeding as usual, and instead of rolling over immediately and going back to sleep, I got up and built a fire. We had only two nights of swanky hotel-room-with-fireplace on this vacation, and I was going to take advantage. I got the fire good and roaring and then climbed back into bed with my two men. Cozy.
Later, after we’d woken, packed, and checked out, we passed the groom’s car – his suit hanging in the back, and ‘Just Married’ written in soap on the back windshield. We smiled at that, and then joined dozens of motorcycles on the measured 35 mph drive up through Grand Teton to Yellowstone National Park. It made me want to rent a pair of bikes and do the ride together one day. Maybe we will.
Our first cabin was a small one with a sink and two double beds, and no room for much else. As soon as we arrived we lay down for a nap, listening to the burbling of a nearby stream, and the cooing of our happy baby. After that little rest, we got up and walked around the Old Faithful area of the park, checking out shops and restaurants, biding time until the geyser did its thing. Which it did. And it was pretty much what you’d expect.
We had an early bedtime that night, anticipating what was coming the next day . . . which was meeting up and going adventuring with the fabulous Erin and Jason!
