In the Year 2009 . . .

Nobody told Jack that last night was New Year’s Eve, so he got up on time today (on time = 6:30 am) and thus am I spending the first day of 2009 grumpy as hell.  I wish I could resolve to get more sleep in 2009, but this appears to be out of my hands.

While grumbling my way through a shower this morning, I did come up with a handful of resolutions for this year.
  1. Further reduce my footprint by investing in a reusable device that will eliminate a great deal of waste.  I already know what this is going to be.  It pertains to, er, delicate issues, and we’ll leave it at that.
  2. Do at least five minutes of yoga at least 5 days a week.  I think 15 minutes every single day would be extremely beneficial, but we’ll go with this baby step for now.
  3. Eliminate in six months the smallish amount of credit card debt that we sunk back into over the course of the latter half of the year.  You’ll just have to believe me when I say it was unavoidable, and that if we had no credit cards we would have had to move in with our parents in order to survive, ok?  But we already have a plan, and it will be gone before June.
  4. Save $1000 in an untouched savings fund.  Depending on whether we move over the summer or not, this may not be possible, but I’d like to have it as a goal!  With debt erasing our focus in the first six months, we are left with the latter six months to save this amount.  Less than $200 a month.  We can certainly do that!  Unless we have to pay moving expenses, in which case I’ll give us a pass on this one.

That’s good for now.  Four concrete resolutions.  I like it.  I also need to do more stopping and enjoying my baby right now as he is, paying at least ten solid minutes of focused attention to my husband every day, walking the dog more often, meeting the cat’s needs a little better, giving myself more breaks, deciding my future career path – but hell, there’s only so much a person can do in a year!
