1. What did you do in 2010 that you’d never done before?
Moved to a city.
2. Did you keep your new year’s resolutions, and will you make more
for next year?
My resolutions were as follows:
Further reduce my
footprint by investing in a reusable device that will eliminate a great deal of
waste. I did it! Girls only, check this link. Love it, for real. Of course, now we can’t recycle because we live in the dark ages here in NOLA, but. . . I do what I can.
Do at least five
minutes of yoga at least 5 days a week. I did NOT.
For shame.
Eliminate in six
months the smallish amount of credit card debt that we sunk back into over the
course of the latter half of the year. Yuppers! At the mo, we have absolutely no debt
whatsoever except a billion dollar in student loans. Well, and a couple hundred left to pay for
Jack’s birth.
Save $1000
in an untouched savings fund. Well,
sort of no. We have all of our year’s
worth of money to live on in a savings fund, from which we pay out bills and
buy food and such. And we won’t have
$1000 left at the end, chances are. But
we’ve reassessed the money situation at this point, and were shocked to
discover that we’re completely living within our means and on track to make it
til August. So, we’re ending the year
completely even steven, and I’m quite pleased with that!
3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Yes, and I haven’t met her delicious daughter yet, curses!
4. Did anyone close to you die?
No.
5. What countries did you visit?
New Orleans is
sort of like another country.
6. What would you like to have in 2010 that you lacked in 2009?
An employed husband. He shares this
wish.
7. What dates from 2009 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
Well, I’d have to look up the date, but leaving work for the last time will
rank as one of the best days of my life, I feel. Moving to New Orleans And the day we
found out we were preggo again in late October is a keeper! Funnily enough, I couldn’t tell you any of the
dates, but I remember them all clearly. will rank as one of the most
anxiety inducing days.
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Being brave enough to dump a horrific job during a recession, and leap into
law school. Also, sewing my first kid’s
Halloween costume! SPIDER!
9. What was your biggest failure?
The yoga thing. We’ve been going to gym
a lot as a family, but I want to make time for more yoga at home.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Barring a disaster in the next 10 hours, nope.
Except that Pack and Play on the toe debacle.
11. What was the best thing you bought?
Dinner out in the French Quarter after exams.
A much needed break from our financially disciplined (boring) existence. (Man, you should never be poor in New Orleans. The food is so fantastic!)

Jack’s, for being a delightful and friendly big boy.
13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
My former employer.

Lady Luck, by Puritan Rodeo
17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
a) happier or sadder? Happier, by leaps and bounds.

Gestating again.
c) richer or poorer? Poorer. If this
keeps going in the direction it’s gone the past few years, next year we’ll be
receiving a negative salary.

Hiking and camping. 2009 was not a good
year for the outdoors, for our family.
19. What do you wish you’d done less of?
Worry.

At my parents’ place, with a side trip to Indiana.

Learning to play the ukulele! And then
un-learning. Also, learning to spell
ukulele.

An external hard drive. How boring. A bigger kitchen.

I was 31, and it was a lovely, quiet day of swimming and pizza with Jack and

satisfying?
Universal health care. For real. We healthy people are still drowning in medical

Goodwill Industries. One day, one day I

Friends. My sister, now.
36. Who was the best new person you met?
Lots of law school friends! Cameron,
Tootsie, Sarah, Jackie, Jenny, Catherine and Hollis and little Alden, and many
more!
37. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2009.
You can still have a leap of faith
at 30.
38. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year.
Bet on black and let it ride, double or nothing
I lost it all but hell I tried, let’s pretend that’s somethin’
Rollin’ and rollin’ and rollin’ since I was 21!
Well we just get by on luck, but she’s not giving it up for strangers
