For my reference, and also your edification if you happen to have a 6 month old who needs a routine! (Developed after reading through the Baby Whisperer site, and a couple of other sites, and yes I get all my parenting advice from teh internets. What else is it for? Don’t say porn.)

Sleeping will be Ferberized. Aka, cry it out method, whereby you let him cry himself to sleep, but go in at regular intervals to check on him and let him know you’re still around, and he is still safe, but he has to go to sleep now. No picking him up, but back rubbing is ok.
Maybe our problem has been not enough eating in the daytime? Thus far he’s been eating 5 oz every 3 hours, plus probably 2 feedings of cereal+veg, 2TB each. So I’m hoping that after feeding him these enormous amounts in the daytime, he won’t be hungry at night. He’ll probably still wake up the first couple of nights, but this will be just out of habit rather than out of hunger. I think right now, looking at the recommendations and looking at what we feed him (and also looking at how big he is), he is genuinely hungry at night. He’s not getting enough calories in the day. And really, if you can’t snarf Baby Ruths from the break room vending machine in the daytime, how can you possibly eat enough calories to sustain you through the long lonely nights?
We’re starting in the morning with the strict, no deviation not even for a minute structure. Zombie-ville, here I come! Oh wait, I’m already here!
good for you! i\’m keeping my fingers crossed for you that all goes well. my mil used to tell me that i was too strict with the schedule, but i tell ya what, my kids are oh so predictable as a result and i love it.
