Categorizing Things is Overrated

January 2

Well, that was a terrible start to 2025, wasn’t it? The usual fizzy optimism and clean fresh blackboard sense of early January have been supplanted by grief and sorrow. And anger – at these radicalized men committing these crimes, and at the tech bros allowing radicalization to proliferate on their platforms because it leads to more piles of un-spendable wealth. I’ve seen so many NOLA residents’ responses read something along the lines of “we already have so many problems here. Why pick on us?” We really do – even without terror attacks, we have buildings literally falling down all over the city – I think three collapsed in the past year, one just the night before this tragedy. We have bad roads, bad schools, a rickety local economy built on the house of cards that is the service industry. Heavy sigh.

It is kind of rad that most of my local friends went to the Quarter today, though. Like – “terror, what? Fuck you dude. We ain’t scared.” Let me tell you that a hurricane bought on Bourbon street is one of the grossest Kool-Aid over-sugared monstrosities you will ever consume, but man if I ain’t tempted to go buy five tonight.

We’ve never actually met, but I have enjoyed reading you for years, and I’m glad that you’ve been posting more lately. I thought of you as soon as I heard the news. I share your anger at the tech bros (for this and for so many reasons). I am also angry at the fact that not nearly enough people–not nearly enough MEN–seem to notice or care that SO MANY of these men committing mass violence also have a history of violence against women.
