Write 24 in 24
It is 2024! I will do my annual check in posts, but also wanted to note that Gretchen Rubin (my favorite happiness expert) has suggested that we all try to write 24 in 24 – that is, write 24 minutes (OR, if it’s a hectic day, 2-4 minutes) every day in 2024. Last year we went outside 23 minutes every day of 2023, and she’s done other challenges in prior years.
I’m aiming to do this 24 minutes of writing in 24, and I’m aiming to do it here for the most part. A few bullets:
- it is rainy and cold today, and my children (still home for winter break) are thrilled. They like “cozy.”
- Jasper and Twyla also like cozy, they are curled up in a sleepy cuddle pile and there is no room on this couch for my feet.
- It is the Prof’s birthday today and we are heading to a steak restaurant as a family tonight, at his request.
- I am doing dry January as always, although every year I allow myself one “cheat” drink on the Prof’s bday. He has stated loudly “I never asked for this cheat” and I tell him to hush his mouth and order me a bourbon. I don’t know, it’s a tradition I like. I have never struggled to make it through January and beyond completely dry except for this one day, so I’m embracing it.
- Our Christmas decorations remain up until Twelfth Night, and then it’s Mardi Gras time! I am in a walking krewe this year and have been practicing long innocuous but hard-to-remember choreographed dances for weeks. We shall see if I remember all the steps on the actual parade day.
