I am a hibernating bear, ensconced in blankets on the couch from now til spring. This is an impulse I always have this time of year, and Omicron has exacerbated my worst tendencies. I once met some folks from Buffalo at a wedding who talked about loving winter because they adore snowshoeing, snowmobiling, etc. etc. They really made weekend outdoor winter activities sound exhilarating and fun, and now that I am probably the fittest I’ve ever been (also the fattest, c’est la vie), I do think I would enjoy such things.
But we don’t live in Buffalo. We don’t have snow here, nor outdoor forest activities – just the same city streets I walk every weekday morning before work. We have cool indoor stuff that we can’t responsibly do right now that costs money anyhow (we are temporarily broke, having completely depleted our savings to put a deposit on a new car and some built-in shelves for our front room). I could google creative Omicron-safe activities to do and sift through them for something appropriate and interesting to people ranging from 7 through tween/teen to us early-40s. ORRRRR I could wear a spot in the upholstery in the shape of my lounging body and daydream about spring until it arrives.
