It’s been a busy weekend! Yesterday was jam packed – I went to Costco in the morning, then took Craig to a wild birthday party at a trampoline park. Then we went to dinner with friends at Mr. B’s in the French Quarter, where I had some of the best redfish with lumpmeat crab I’ve ever had. We all ate about seven loaves of warm crusty bread and butter, and watched our boys trade Pokemon cards. Then after that, I went to a fundraising gala for work. It was a long full day, but satisfying and social.
This morning we went to church, and the Prof stayed behind to wait while our little one attended children’s choir (it’s held in the half hour after church, and Craiggy loves it – HI MISS PEGGY he always screams when he sees the choir’s volunteer director, MISS PEGGY! HI! IT’S CRAIG! HI!). While hanging with the other parents, he noted that everyone there was complaining about having to sort through their beads and throws, and had to laugh when he came home and saw me muttering grumpily from beneath the staggering pile of made-in-China blinky plastic. I gathered a trash pile, a recycle pile, a save-for-Prof-to-throw-next-year pile, a pile to send to friends and family with small kids, and a very tiny pile that we will keep, and it took like THREE HOURS. And now my hands smell like coronavirus.
We got the Christmas/Mardi Gras tree put up, swept the dust and wayward (fake) pine needles, and then rested a moment before pulling out the Easter decorations to replace it all. (I know there are people who do not do seasonal decorations and on days like these I wonder if I could be one of those people, but I guess not since I have schlepped this holiday stuff in and out of its place every couple months year round my entire adult life and now I’m too old to question it).
I went to Pier One shortly after Easter last year and bought a metric ton of bunnies and eggs at deep discounted prices, then carefully packaged them up for a year. And now here it’s a year later and it’s like Christmas – all new decorations! Where shall I put them? Oh, I forgot I bought that super cute nest! Ooh, these plates are so CUTE! I am quite delighted with the overall look, so I’ve gone around the house and lovingly photographed my Easter finery in my iPhone Portrait Mode, like the true middle aged woman I am.
Now we are all springified, and we are about to “spring forward” and have it be light in evenings again, and that’s just lovely.
In a happy circumstance, our neighbors had a crawfish boil this evening, so I did not have to cook dinner after my day’s toil. We ate potatoes, sausage, corn and crawfish, and chocolate cake for dessert, until rain chased us inside. We put the little boys to bed, and now Jack and I are watching Father Brown Mysteries (a re-watch, at his request). A nice weekend. We have a more quiet week coming up than we’ve had in a while, and I am very much looking forward to settling into spring.
