Pneumonia Strikes
I have been flat on my back with pneumonia since Saturday evening. This is my third month of work and I’m missing an entire week – not the best scenario. I tried to go in Wednesday, though, and they all sent me home, so at least they saw how terrible I looked and that I wasn’t faking it.
Is there anything more awful than having pneumonia and having to care for two preschoolers? They just do not understand what it means for mom to be sick. Their needs are relentless, they were constantly bothering me for one thing or another. I lay on the couch, wilting with fever, and begged them desperately to just watch tv and leave me alone. I managed to take them into daycare each day and pick them up each evening, which helped, but still had the nights. They turned into horrid little devils, doing things like tearing up a whole roll of toilet paper all over the bathroom, throwing books at the dog, spilling drinks and smearing food, screaming (god they were so loud), waking up at 2am and needing juice, dropping matchbox cars into my cup of water – doing all of the things that small children do that become insurmountable problems for a woman going into day five of a 102 fever. I finally called the Professor back from work to help.
With him home, today was better. I am lightheaded, tired, coughing. Improving. I will not run the marathon Sunday, obviously. I just hope I can go to work Monday. Not only are my muscles atrophying from laying on the couch for going on six days, I’m also bored, and have lots of work to do. Ugh.

I’m so sorry. Hoping you heal quickly!
Nothing sucks more than being sick with healthy kids. We just did a stint where I had strep (eating made me cry), M had a sinus infection, and Pea was….completely fine. It was awful. I let her watch a god-awful amount of TV.

Yes! Being sick with babies/toddlers is the WORST. They do NOT give you a break at all, however badly you need it. Hope you feel better soon. Pneumonia sucks so bad (my hubby had it last year) but can’t imagine how much worse it is when you can’t just put your feet up and read trashy novels in bed!
