In the midst of end-of-term chaos, these beautiful moments keep ambushing me.
Last night the Professor saddled up the pup for his evening walkies, and I decided to corral our increasingly active boys into their double stroller and join him. It was either that or continue to chase Liam around the room and scrape dog hair and floor dirt off his belly every minute or so. My floors have never been so clean, and my child never so dirty, as they have since Liam started commando crawling (he can crawl belly-off-the-floor, too, but chooses the much quicker drag the belly method).
It was dusk, the moon was three quarters full and bright bright bright. We walked in a 5 block square around our house, and the entire way, Jack conversed with the moon, playing both sides of the dialogue.
Jack as Jack: Hewwo moon! I get you! Chomp!
Jack as Moon: Hewwo, how you doing down there?
Jack as Jack: I doing good, how you doing?
Jack as Moon: I come see you, ok?
Interspersed with this fetching toddler dialogue, Jack implored the rest of us to also check out the moon, to help look for it when we lost it while under overhanging limbs, to try to get the moon with our arms and bring it down to his level. Twenty minutes of moon-play later, when we finally arrived home, Jack said “Nigh nigh moon! See ya soon, moon!”
Never have I found it so easy to seize a moment or find joy or delight in the little things as when I have my little guy with me. What a trip. What a happy kid.
In other Proud Mama news, yesterday Liam pulled himself up to stand at the coffee table, grabbed one of Jack’s trains, and started making it drive around the table. So, boring, right? Except WOW! That’s the first time he’s refrained from simply inserting whatever he grabs into his mouth and drooling all over it. He actually knew what this little blue train was supposed to do, and he drove it around for several minutes, squawking with joy the whole time.
Man, they exhaust me, but they sure do delight me as well. Nigh nigh, moon. Nigh nigh train. See ya soon.
awesome.
Makes me want to cry. In a good way.
Lovely, sweet, precious story. Made me smile.
