Now I’m talking about the t.v. series.
After much hype from friends, we finally Netflixed this Canadian show about a fictional Shakespeare Company in the fictional town of New Burbage. It took several episodes to get into it, but the final two of the first series have hooked me. And made me miss theatre. Man, if I could make $25k a year acting in solely Shakespeare plays, 2 months on one month off, I would do it. Unfortunately, theatre is too fickle for me – no parts are guaranteed, there’s not even a little money in it, and it takes your whole life. I want to be around for my kids, so I can’t work all day and do theatre at night as I once did. By committing the remainder of my youth and beauty on raising children, I’m missing my chance to play some of the female parts I always wanted to play. But, I suppose the best Shakespeare females are old crones, anyhow, am I right? So when my kids are grown and don’t want to hang out with me anymore, I can embarrass them by playing The Nurse in a local production of Romeo and Juliet.
Anyway, this series gets what theatre is like, spot on. I don’t know if anyone else would find that interesting, but I found myself shouting out YESS!!! That is SueEllen from college, totally! Or, OMG! They’ve pegged my local company’s designer, chapter and verse.
So anyhow. A review of sorts. There you go.
See, I told ya!Have you seen the Stage Manager blow out yet?!?!?! Cuz that part is freakin awesome! I guess you have, cuz it is also the sword fight at the cast party.
