I voted on Friday (Gobama!) In the booth next to me was Ronald McDonald – across from us, Supergirl – and on my way out I passed a very scary looking adult black and white clown – something about colorless clowns makes my blood run cold. I was dressed as Tina Fey dressed as Sarah Palin (a-ha! You didn’t expect that twist, didja?) Lest they kick me out for campaigning behind the "You May Not Campaign Past This Line" line, I crossed my arms to hide my moose button and flag lapel pin. You never know with these things. I could see myself being dragged away, sputtering "But! But! I’m not even voting for her! I’m an Obama gal! See me do the terrorist fist bump??? See???"
Jack dressed as the Jack O Lantern for Halloween – you have seen him in this outfit, or if you haven’t, look two photo albums back. Soon – tomorrow, perhaps? – you will see pictures of him in the same outfit from Halloween night, and you will further see that it is significantly tighter. Big heavy siiiiiiiggghh for the swift passing of the baby smooshy cute stage.
He and my mother and my husband enjoyed a quiet Halloween eve passing out and also consuming chocolate. One for the little Care Bear, one for me, one for the little Tin Man, one for me . . . I, meanwhile, headed down to a local brewery and did a band show. It was fine, it was fun, but I would have liked to have stayed home with my men this year. Ah, well, I had a good time nonetheless, and Jack didn’t miss me. Patrick may well have, but he survived the separation, somehow. The best costume at the bar (which has a yearly costume contest) was a group of folks who dressed up as the movie The Birds. It looked awesome. Birds pecking at their shoulders, rivulets of blood, even a sort of diorama of lots of birds which they held up between them as they screamed and fended them off – so clever. Last year I remember my fave was the guy dressed as a Brawny paper towel roll. He had a hard time getting through doorways.
It is November now, and my cold lingers, and Patrick has it, and I just finished stitching my niece’s blanket. She’ll be here any day, and I’m determined to also knit a pair of booties before her arrival – I saw ones for sale on etsy that I want to try to copy. And now my wee son is fussing, so I’d better go care for him. Happy Belated Halloween.
