I changed to a new beachy color, just for kicks.
As you can see from my picture above, we made it to the beach ourselves already this summer. We went up for one day, my last day of maternity leave. As it turned out, my college roomie Jennifer was at a North Carolina beach for her yearly family vacation, and we went and crashed her vacay. Having the use of her beach house made being there with a newborn a lot more doable. He spent most of the day in the shade of the porch, but we did have a neat little setup for him in the sand that was out of the wind and sun, where he slept soundly for a good while. He also wore a little hat and sleep sack that used to belong to his daddy! The hat is still brightly colored as the day it was made, and the sleep sack was perfect – thin, light material that covered most of his skin without making him hot. He was set. It was a wonderful last day of maternity break, especially because I got to spend it with my old roomie. We don’t see each other much, but apparently we don’t have to to stay close. She’s one of those kinds of friends.
I’m having a hard time getting back into the groove here. On as little sleep as I’m still getting (last night was somewhat torturous, for both baby and me), I just don’t have it in me to DEAL with these people. The good news is, I go on vacation next week, to Jackson Hole, Wyoming. We will be there attending the wedding of a very close friend – Patrick is in the wedding. And, as we’re flying all the way out there (thank god, the Brazil frequent flyer miles got us our plane tickets for a blessed ten bucks each), we decided to stay a while. We’ll be seeing Yosemite, Grand Teton, and my other close college buddy Erin and her husband Jason (long-time readers may recall a trip to Montana to visit them a couple of years ago.) Although we’re both a bit apprehensive about how an 8 week old infant will change the whole flying-on-an-airplane-and-then-renting-a-car-plus-staying-in-hotels experience, we’re hopeful that Jack will cooperate. He’s been pretty darling so far, only really crying when he’s hungry or uncomfortable – except the last two days when he’s been a fusspot. Cross your fingers that we take a sweet baby across the country with us. I don’t want to be THAT mother on the plane with a screeching infant. Shudder.
Back to working – working on keeping my eyes open, that is.
baby might do better than you think…sometimes it\’s easier to travel with them than you think…well so i hear…
