The Wonder Women have begun again, so go check us out! And a very interesting topic this week, I must say. I spend an inordinate amount of time thinking about myself, as my Wonder Woman post will reveal. Perhaps having a child will cure me of that? Or maybe I’ll remain perpetually (but cheerfully!) self-absorbed.
The husband has made it safely to our Continental Cousin to the South. He’s going through the pains of logistical adjustments, as is to be expected, but nothing too difficult to navigate. We’ve been experimenting with different ways to call one another – landline, cell phone, internet phone (Skype). When he calls me from his landline in the hotel, we are on some sort of party line, so we get to listen to other hotel guests chatting to one another in Portuguese. Today, this woman was trying to spell something out – ah, ess-eh, emm-eh, and so on. When she was done spelling (which we could hear plain as day), and they hung up, then we heard the beeping dial tone for about 20 seconds. It was amusing, and also distracting. If I want to call him, I can call him on the computer from work, from home, call his cell phone (big $$ but nice to know in case of emergencies), and also call his room at the hotel if we feel like eavesdropping on his neighbors. He taught me how to say "Room Eighty Two" in Portuguese. Last time he went, I learned how to say "Patrick’s Girlfriend." Little by little I’m learning the language. Eventually I may be able to count to ten and order a sandwich.
