I just checked out Meghan’s blog today (see her in the blog roll – internet explorer takes an absolute age to upload her but the beautiful pix are worth it!) I’m stealing her idea.
John is the first name. We’ll call him Jack, but John’s the name. The last name – I won’t share – but it’s similar to Adams. Fill in the middle. Any ideas? Please, if you lurk, de-lurk. We’re seeking inspiration. THE name, THE one and only middle name, hasn’t knocked us over yet. My eyes are crossing from perusing naming websites.
We’re thinking of a few things. I’ll share a few options, keeping in mind that the final choice will be secret, so we have something secret to reveal to the world when he’s born. But this gives you some idea of our ramblings.
1. John Garrett Adams
2. John Edward Adams (named after 2 grandfathers)
3. John Charles Adams (same 2 grandfathers)
4.John (my maiden name) Adams (eh, probably not)
5. John Cormac Adams
6. John Randall Adams
7. John Reuel Adams (Reuel is one of Tolkien’s middle names. All of my sisters and I have middle names from the Tolkien books. I think this would be a neat homage to my family, a cool and different middle name to tack onto a very traditional first name, and it sounds good <pronounced ROO-el.> I have not even remotely convinced my husband of this.)
8. John Ronald Adams (Tolkien’s other middle name. I don’t like it as much)
Ready go. Any feedback on the ones above? Any other ideas? Get ready to play . . . let’s NNNAAAMMMEEEE the BBBAAABBBBYYYYY
I like Garrett. A lot. James? Michael would be a traditional middle name. Matthew? Jeffrey? Christopher? Kash? Kash is one of my grandfather\’s names and I\’ve always thought it was a great name. William? That\’s my other grandfather\’s name.
I don\’t know. It\’s Friday night and I\’m not being creative. Maybe I\’ve at least listed a few things to get the conversation started again?
Amanda 🙂
I think the middle name should be significant, like naming him after a relative either your grandfathers, fathers, etc. Our first son will have my husband\’s middle name because it\’s been past down forever. He was the second born but I can\’t guarantee we\’ll have two kids, let alone two boys.
i like john edward, but it reminds me too much of john edwards the politician. i actually really like john (your maiden name) and john charles.
Amanda – Garrett is Patrick\’s fave. Also, our next son (if we have another) will be named William! We\’ll call him Liam. Kash is just an awesome name.
Mrs. E – yeah, significance is good – the trick is balance. Keeping both sides of the family in the loop. We struggle with this because Patrick\’s side has less funky last names than my side
SJ – That\’s our issue, too. If John Edwards becomes president (unlikely, but could happen), then it could be weird. But if not, then he\’ll probably be forgotten by the time the kid is 10, and probably no one will notice!
although john edward is actually my fathers first two names…i would say that you should never name a child after family…someone always feels left out…
*~* :o) don\’t cry cause it\’s over… :o) smile cause it happened… :o) *~*
