Thought I’d give you a quick update on a couple of the update-able items in my life.
#1 – The Puppy
After I called Animal Welfare, the puppy stopped living in the shed and came back out to the porch. He’s been roaming free since then, still ignored, still left day and night, but it’s MUCH better than locking the wee thing in the shed.
Until last weekend. When the neighbors, who “moved in” (aka parked their trash outside) 2 months ago, rocked up in a UHaul and started loading it with furniture from inside the house. ????? Are they moving in our out? What is going on? Since then, the trash is still all over the yard, but we have seen neither them nor the puppy. I can only presume they rented the place for 2 months as a storage shed/dump, and have moved on, which doesn’t bother me in the slightest. But I WILL be calling the Town of H__________ to complain about the trash, which is a violation of code. God, living next to redneck renters is a lot of work, especially when the landlord is completely absent and doesn’t seem to require terribly much from his prospective renter’s references.
#2 – Relay for Life
We have raised over $2000, an average of $150 a person. Our event happens next Friday – we’ll stay up all night (along with all the other Relay Teams), and sell chili, chips, and yard sale items to the people who attend. At least one representative from our team will be walking the track all night, lit only by the burning candles in the luminaria, each a bag marked with a cancer patient’s name. I’m so excited. One woman I work with, a Quality Assurance Lab Technician, has been charging people $5 to enter her office – $3 to get a requested report – $2 for a hug. It’s all in fun, but people pay up, and she has singlehandedly raised over $500. She’s our team star, and we get to honor her that night as well. We’re all looking forward to it – the Professor will be joining us and helping set up our sale tent, and then will walk with me through the night. It will be a fun bonding moment for us, I know.
#3 – The Marriage
In just 2 weeks and 3 days, the Professor and I celebrate our 1 year anniversary. This has been the quickest year of my life, I think! So many wonderful things have happened to us. I’ll do a schmaltzy schmuppy happy blog about that on it’s own, but to briefly update, we’re happier than ever. Going camping on the beach of North Carolina for our anniversary celebration, and that will be a long weekend that I will ENJOY.
That’s it! I’ll write more updates tomorrow – – – are you on the edge of your seats????
