Hormonal and Crabby
So I’m planning our fall family event at work. It will be a weekend in late October, when the air is crisp but not too cool, when the nights don’t get dark terribly early, but just early enough, when the leaves are turning and the smell of fall is in the air – in short, when it is a fabulous time to be outside enjoying the natural world.
Almost all of our employees have small children, and this fun day is for them. So I decide to plan a trip to a pumpkin patch, where we’ll have a pig picking, go on a hayride, pick a pumpkin, pet the goats, and do all manner of fun things. I have to give folks 3 options, but this is my clear choice. My second choice is to have a great picnic at a nearby lake, with bobbing for apples, again with the pig picking, some fishing, sack races, a scarecrow making contest, etc. Plenty of fun for kids and adults alike.
Do my people pick either of my outdoor fun options? Or do they pick option 3, which is – – – bowling and burgers? Of course, of course they pick the freaking bowling. We spend 10 hours a day, 5 days a week, inside a climate controlled building with no connection to the outside world. Let’s do it some more! In a crappy, faux Italian kid playplace with no windows at all! The fall and spring are the best times of year to go outside, but screw that! We want you to plan an indoor stinky beery bowling tournament to last for a full warm golden fall Saturday, and then find something for our kids to do so we can enjoy ourselves knocking down the pins and getting drunk! Thanks!
Grump. If I wasn’t in charge of the pissing thing, I wouldn’t go. Sometimes I hate people.

i\’m sorry you didn\’t get your choice. i don\’t think i would\’ve even been nice enough to ask. i\’m praying for rain that day so you won\’t be miserable in doors all day long.and may i ask? – what is a pig picking? i\’m kind of thinking the pig is happy they chose the bowling alley as well.
Nice Girl
BOO! I am sorry that they didn\’t pick one of the outdoor options. I shouldn\’t be surprised though. I mean, of course they would pick the one option that you don\’t want?! It happens to me on a daily basis where I work. Arg.
Chin up, Sweetie. Tomorrow is Friday and then you are off for three glorious days!

i was in charge of our 15th high school class reunion. i chose to hold it outdoors. under a pavilion. in october. near a pond. we were going to have a fishing competiton and horsehoes and a genuinely fun time. including a two seater outhouse!! however, hurricane/tropical storm tammy thought differently. it ended up being cold and wet and miserable. luckily we had a fireplace at one end of the pavilion.
my classmates, god love them, sucked it up and seemed to have a nice time. they got warmed up once the alcohol started flowing. there might have been so grumbling but i thought overall it was a good party.
next time though….someone else can plan it. i can\’t be held responsible for the weather!!
what is pig-picking?
