We’re back. I’ve spent the first hour and half of my return to the corporate grind by catching up on emails and blogs and things. Given the jet lag, and the fact that my needy cat kept us up all night (“you leave me alone for a week, I meow for four solid hours while you’re trying to sleep. you should know the drill by now”), I have given myself permission to ease back into to working. I have a meeting in half an hour, so I’ve only a minute to spare you dear, RG-starved readers.
We returned safe and sound from Denver. Tuscon was great, the drive up was great, and barbershopping in Denver was just fine. My dad was in his element – man did he have a great time. I need not mention that barbershopping is pretty dorky, but it has got some PASSIONATE devotees, and my dad ranks up there with the best. And if you can get over yourself enough to swallow the absolutely terrible jokes and just enjoy the showmanship, you can have a lot of fun. (By “you” I mean “me”).
Anyway, I always enjoy singing 4 part harmony with my sisters, and we did plenty of that – dad loves to trot us out and get us singing, and we do it because we love him (though my brother somehow always manages to escape). We did manage to avoid being asked to sing on public transit, though anyone riding the light rail in Denver this week probably got an earful of good old minor 7th chords from the less inhibited singers. My sister- and brother-in-law were with us, and at one point on the elevator Erin asked “I think we saw some barbershoppers downstairs who WEREN’T singing for a second.” My brother replied “There must not have been 4 of them.”
In addition to the barbershop that made up the latter half of our week, we also enjoyed lots of family and fun in Tuscon. You needn’t worry, dear readers – a full update in blindingly boring detail (boring to all but me, that is!) is forthcoming. For now, I’ve gotta put my game face on and get ready for this meeting. Hope you had a great Fourth!
