Two news items that struck me today:
Abortion ultrasound viewing advances in South Carolina
Not particularly happy about either. Yes, I’m going there, I’m throwing the A-word out on my post today. Comment if you’d like, and maybe we can get an intellectual dialogue going, because I’m fairly certain that my small audience is politically diverse. If you don’t want to get into it, that’s fine, too. But I have swung from extreme conservative Republican to extreme liberal Democrat to my current state, which is a moderately liberal Democrat with a few Republican sprinkles. These huge mind shifts came out of intelligent discussions with other people. So intelligent discussions do change minds. Mine, anyway!
It looks like someone aborted your link (just kidding…it has an extra http in there). That whole "look at the ultrasound picture" thing is quite parental and bizarre. Of course I against it, but at the same time it seems like any woman who would have her mind changed by seeing the ultrasound might be the type of woman who would have eventually come to regret her decision. I think most women who are confident in their decision to have an abortion understand what is going on inside their bodies and wouldn\’t be overly shocked by the ultrasound pictures.
Still…please stop bossing women around, lawmakers!
Thanks Angry Redhead! I suppose I agree, which is why I think it\’s a silly rule. It\’s making an assumption that a woman who is prepared to have an abortion needs Big Brother Govt to explain what she\’s actually doing.
PS Trying to fix the links. Whoops. You can tell I don\’t often delve into hyperlinks.
i am anti-abortion, but i have not always been. even after i gave birth to leah, i was still pro-choice. but, after alana was born, i was changed. she was such a wonderful baby (and still is). i would hold her and think about other babies who were as loving and precious as she that did not have the chance to bless a mother with his/her life (whether that be a natural mother or an adopted mother) because it was cut short by abortion. i just believe that there are other alternatives to ending the life of a little baby. that being said, i think the ultrasound is a great idea. the little baby that a mother chooses to abort is just that — a little baby. the mother should have the chance to see her child and truly grasp the seriousness of her decision before going through with the procedure. i\’m not here to battle anyone, but i fully expect to be flamed for this. just understand that i\’m not one to debate issues. i am true to my convictions and this is my opinion…whether they are accepted by others or not.
this sentence was not typed correctly:"i just believe that there are other alternatives to ending the life of a little baby. "what i meant to say was that there are other alternatives to unwanted pregnancy that do not include ending the life of a little baby.
Thanks SJ.
No flaming allowed. I loved your comment.
I\’m not a mom, so I haven\’t experienced pregnancy or birth. That said, I think abortion is a terrible, terrible thing. I would hate to be faced with choosing to have one (for me, it would have to be some kind of serious medical emergency, and even then I would pause). I would probably try to talk any of my sisters or friends out of one, because I\’m in a situation now where I could provide at least some support. I guess, though, I still want the right to make the choice.
Thanks for commenting! I respect your opinion and won\’t try to talk you out of it!
