Weekend

Saturday morning brought us a clean house after a coffee fueled cleaning frenzy, all hail our 10 cup percolator. A nagging, shallow cough has me convinced that our house is full of dust, or mold, or cat dander, or an insidious lung-tickling mixture of the three, so after a sleepless hacking Friday night I raced around the house jittery and wild-eyed, attacking all dusty surfaces with caffeinated fury. Unfortunately as many a would-be dust-eliminator knows, the closer you look the more you see, and soon my pass over the furniture with a Pledged rag devolved into scrubbing each slat of the Venetian blinds with Formula 409 (my only “general” sort of cleaner), and washing down the window sashes and interior trim with same.

Ahem. That didn’t last long. I did the blinds and trim in our room, moved all my cleaning accoutrements into the office, and immediately broke the blinds with one overzealous tug. I then regained my senses, called in the Professor to fix the blinds, and began some projects that I had some hope of completing in one weekend, i.e. laundry and bathroom cleaning. The Professor spent much of the morning trying to coax the vacuum cleaner to stop capriciously turning off and dumping half its contents back on the floor in a neat little pile. We need a new vacuum. And a cleaning service!

Anyway, ten loads of laundry and two sparkling bathrooms later, it was lunchtime. I went to the kitchen to make a huge and tasty meal. Crab stuffed fish, rice, salad, a bottle of red wine – we ate them at the dining table with a spring-like breeze blowing through the opened windows. The afternoon saw us at the park on the greenway – me jogging, him biking, both enjoying the continued warm weather. A party at a friend’s house capped the evening, and I made a few new friends there before the night was over. No sleep this night either – I woke only a few hours after I fell asleep, coughing like mad. I spent the day laying around, sleep deprived and coughing but happily lazy. I watched movies, read books, ate soup and drank tea. And coughed. It was rainy and overcast outside – weather perfectly suited to my lazy mood. The Professor was a little more industrious than I, but he managed some quality laze time, too.

Last night – still coughing. I might go to the doctor. I’ve been before and they just said I have “twitchy” lungs that are sensitive to changes in humidity and temperature. That’s all well and good, but a girl has got to get some sleep. The Professor abandoned me in the night, padding up to bring me a glass of water, kiss me on the forehead, and bundle into the guest room for some uninterrupted sleep. I’m driving us both crazy.

Besides that annoying issue, though, it was a wonderful weekend.  I had a great chance to relax and catch up on housework, before I began . . . King Lear.  Rehearsals tonight.  Busy every night til February 24th.  It’s going to be Great!!

it sounds like a perfect weekend — minus the coughing spells, of course.  isn\’t the weather just lovely!?  i know that there are lots of unhappy folks in my neck of the woods due to lack of snow, but i am happy as a lark!  i don\’t mind a bit of a chill in the air, but i\’m not a fan of the white stuff. congrats on your role in king lear!  unfortunately, it doesn\’t look like much more sleep in your future, eh?  at least it will be because of fun, laughter, and new friends — not because of a hacking cough!

You\’re going to be a busy gal!  Glad that your weekend was wonderful.  I love those where you have one busy day and then one lazy day.  Sorry to hear about the cough.  Have you tried anyting like Tylenol PM to help you sleep?  That usually works for me.  Maybe it is worth a try!

We got your thank you card the other day!  Gorgeous!  You have the embosser that I am dying for and the lovely monogrammed paper that I lust after.  So pretty!
